Mid-century Meredew Chest of Four Drawers on tapered legs in light oak veneer.

Condition: Good original condition, some marking to the top clearly shown in the photographs.

 

Traditional Britisih cabinet maker, D Meredew Ltd, one of the four main domestic furniture manufacturers specialised in bedroom pieces.

 

Based in Letchworth, Hertfordshire (although their origins were in the East End in the 1900’s). Surviving WW1 on Ministry of Works orders and WW2 making Utility furniture, their designs simple modern designs became popular in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s after German designer Alphons Loebenstien joined the firm. They also made radio cabinets for Murphy and Bush. 

 

By the mid-1970’s they were taken over by Stag of Nottingham and by 1990 manufacturing had closed.
