Solid elm and beech. Polished natural colour. The Ercolani's ingenuity has produced a Windsor chair that stacks straight. Beautifully made, with seats of solid elm and the rest in beech. Immensely strong, and aesthetically extremely pleasant, yet very lightweight. The careful shaping of the back uprights and tails is designed to give full comfort and support.
These chairs successfully passed the rigid performance tests of the BSI and those sponsored by the Ministry of Education in their draft performance for school chairs before coming a staple in churches, schools and public buildings. They were superseded by the much less environmentally friendly and shorter-lived aluminium/ply and poly chairs which adorn skips today.
This item was in production between 1956 and 1977.
Dimensions: 59cm high (seat height 33cm) x 35cm wide x 33cm deep.
Ercol Windsor (329) Large Children's Stacking Chair, Light Finish
- At Thomas Norris we try not to 'over restore', our furniture has 'lived' and we like to show that. All our repairs are purposefully left visible although subtle in colour so buyers know what they are getting. We use traditional techniques and finishes to maintain as close to the Ercol finish as possible - these items are purposefully not restored to 'as new factory finish'. We leave undersides of flat surfaces in original finish and condition to allow buyers to see how they have lived.
